New Study Suggests the Moon Triggers

on how the higher tidal stress exerted during New and Full Moons correlates with, and may even trigger larger earthquakes.

Finally! Everything you ever wanted to know about the Gauquelin Research, and all in one place:
Introduction to materials to aid research into astrology:
N. Kollerstrom/

There seems to be a general misunderstanding
of what 'astrology' is and what astrologers do.
Consider these common arguments, e.g., astrology can't possibly be true because the stars are too far away to affect us, and the 'shocking new discovery' made every decade or so,
that the zodiac constellations have realigned a Introduction to materials to aid research into astrology round a 13th sign, etc.
Both of these are examples of argument by laziness, posing as science.

Astrologers are as guilty of arguments by laziness as anyone else.

Nevertheless, recognizing that the fixed stars do appear to move  ( or 'precess') at
a regular rate,
western astrologers have
used the tropical zodiac of the signs instead of the
sidereal zodiac of the stars/constellations since roughly the time of Hipparchus (approx. 1st century BC).

Hence, that whole Age of Aquarius thing...

In other words, for 2000 years, western astrologers have not been concerned with influences
from distant stars, but rather with a zodiac derived from the seasons, which not only 'precesses',
but also expresses how we experience different stages of the
earth's annual journey around the Sun differently
That's an important distinction.
Season of Birth & Birth Month Effects
A growing body of research demonstrates the reality of  'season-of-birth' & birth month effects,
with little to no consensus on what these well-documented effects are, or why they exist.
Astrologers actually focus on our immediate planetary environment
Rather than distant stars, western astrologers focus on our
immediate cosmic environment; i.e. the interactions of the
Sun, Moon, and the planets of our solar system, and how the
combinations of forces within our solar system impact the sun,
and the earth's atmosphere, which affects life on earth.

Solar Influences on Human Behavior

Consider the results of these two studies by Didier Castille which demonstrated that the French are more likely to die when the Sun is in their Zodiac Sign & more likely to marry someone of the same Zodiac Sign.

The Sun may even influence the occurrence of accidents, according to this study by Sara Klein Ridgely:

Ironically, these results do not seem to factor into the mainstream research on the same phenomena:

Lunar Influences on Human & Animal Behavior
Consider the following brief extract from a most thorough review:
by Michal Zimeckl  Institute of Immunology & Experimental Therapy,  Polish Academy of Science: 'The lunar cycle has an impact on human reproduction, in particular fertility, menstruation, and birth rate, ...admittance to hospitals and emergency units because of various causes (cardiovascular and acute coronary events, variceal hemorrhage, diarrhea, urinary retention) correlated with moon phases.
In addition, other events associated with human behavior, such as traffic accidents, crimes, and suicides, appeared to be influenced by the lunar cycle...

In studying 11,940 cases at the Colorado State University Veterinary Medical Center, researchers found the risk of emergency room visits to be 23 percent higher for cats and 28 percent higher for dogs on days surrounding full moons. It could be people tend to take pets out more during the full moon, raising the odds of an injury, or perhaps something else is at work — the study did not determine a cause.

The Gauquelin Effect  Still in the Game

"The Tenacious Mars Effect  (1996)  by Professor Suitbert Ertel and Kenneth Irving (Urania Trust) "describes the Gauquelin's pioneering work and analyzes in detail the attempts by skeptic committees in Belgium, the USA and France to disprove their results. The book highlights the often dubious methods by which hostile skeptics have sought to discredit the Gauquelin's uncomfortable findings and shows that, in fact, much of the evidence is even stronger than previously claimed." From Astrology Research
